Why Performance Management Fails – And What To Do
About It
Biography/Presenter
Information
Robert
holds degrees in applied psychology and has worked as a researcher, journal
editor, seminar leader, professor, writer, and even taught social and
communication skills to multiple murderers with psychiatric
illnesses.
His focus is on the creation
of positive relationships and effective communication in the
workplace.
As a consultant Robert has
worked with organizations in developing performance management systems, and
through his other work has come into contact with, and talked to thousands of
employees and managers about performance management and appraisal
issues.
In 1992, Robert wrote a
small white paper called: A Critical Look At Performance Management - Why
Doesn’t It Work, outlining a number of reasons why most performance
systems suck value from companies.
In 1998, he was asked to
write a book on performance management that would be consistent with the
principles of systems-thinking and Total Quality Management. The book,
Performance Management, A Briefcase Book [ISBN 0-07-071866] was
published in 1999 by McGraw-Hill. In addition to coming at performance
management from a slightly different angle, the book allowed Robert to include
the “human” side of communication and relationships to create a powerful how-to
guide for the performance management process. His newest book is called “A
Complete Idiot’s Guide To Dealing With Difficult
Employees”.
Robert is also active on the
internet, hosting the Performance Management & Appraisal Discussion list,
and a number of others related to difficult people, workplace conflict and
workplace communication. If you are interested in more information about these
free services drop him a line via Internet email at: ceo@work911.com
Robert lives in Winnipeg,
Canada with his wife and three cats. He offers “brief intervention” support for
the development of performance management systems that work, and training in
dealing with hostile people and conflict prevention in the workplace. He is also
available for keynote and conference speaking on a number of subjects, including
performance management.
