  • Employee Engagement Six principles for leadership communication during change
By Chris Gay - Many organizations today are experiencing a tremendous amount of change. For the change to be effective and result in the desired outcomes, leaders must be at the front and center of any communication strategy. In my next two newsletters, I'll be focusing on the six principles of leadership communication during times of change, which communicators can use to help leaders increase their communication effectivenes new (Added: 17-Nov-2009 Hits: 36 )

Defining Attributes Of Excellent Leaders

  • Abolishing the myths of leadership
By John Roulet - Many of us have tired of books, articles, and discussions about leadership. After all, there is so much competing and confusing information in the public domain about leadership. On top of that, today's leaders seem to be getting worse instead of better. But we can't just give-up and let the confusion continue; we need great leadership now more than ever. new (Added: 17-Nov-2009 Hits: 30 )

Employee Engagement and Leadership

  • The ten C’s of employee engagement
By George Ambler - The shocking part of the employee engagement challenge is that research indicates that only between 17% and 29% (depending on the research) of employees are actively engaged in their job at any one time. This would mean that if you were a soccer or football team only 2-3 players on the team would be 100% committed to the team’s success. It seems to me that the odds of winning a game with only 2-3 players 100% committed to a teams success are pretty slim! So, “How can leaders engage employees’ heads, hearts, and hands?“, by starting to apply the following 10 C’s of employee engagemen new (Added: 17-Nov-2009 Hits: 33 )
  • Leadership’s Impact on Employee Engagement: Differences Among Entrepreneurs and Professional CEOs
By SSRN - This study aims at identifying similarities and differences between the leadership practices of managing entrepreneurs and professional CEOs and to investigate how these impact on their immediate subordinates’ satisfaction, commitment, motivation, and effectiveness (Engagement). Design: A multiple-respondents survey, aiming at CEOs and their immediate subordinates was conducted. Factor analysis, correlations and moderated regression analysis were used in order to reach conclusions. Findings: Two leadership dimensions are found to be most influential: (a) being a good manager/mentor and (b) articulating vision. new (Added: 17-Nov-2009 Hits: 32 )
  • Leadership and Employee Engagement | The Meaning of Leadership | Fast Company
By MITCH MCCRIMMON - The usual initiatives to engage employees are paternalistic. They merely scratch the surface because they leave the conventional heroic leadership model in place. The problem with heroic, transformational leadership is that the more heroic the leader, the more dependent employees can feel. Much of what is called employee engagement is nothing more than old motivational factors that we have known about for at least 40 years in most cases. new (Added: 17-Nov-2009 Hits: 27 )
  • Leadership by Proxy Causes Low Employee Engagement | Mission Minded Management
By Michelle Malay Carter - A Wyatt Watson survey in India found that the adoption of well known HR practices does not necessarily equate to higher employee satisfaction and engagement scores. I could not discern specifically what “well known HR practices” the study is referring to, but I suspect it includes the current idea of managers handing over more of their managerial work to HR (orientation, job scoping, performance management, coaching, selection, training), leaving the managers with only their “technical” work to do. I think we have gone too far in this, and the tail is wagging the dog. new (Added: 17-Nov-2009 Hits: 53 )
  • Four levels of employee engagement
By Mitch McCrimmon - The evidence is clear: engaged employees are more productive than their disengaged peers. In 2005, an oft-quoted Towers Perrin survey found that companies with high employee engagement had up to 19% higher operating margin, net profit margin, revenue growth and up to 25% greater earnings per share than companies with low employee engagement. More recently, Watson Wyatt, found that "The highly engaged are more than twice as likely to be top performers – almost 60% of them exceed or far exceed expectations for performance." new (Added: 17-Nov-2009 Hits: 66 )
  • Employee engagement in tough times
By Marcia Xenitelis - One of the things that continues to surprise me is that when times are bad, organizations still spend money on employee engagement surveys. What are they expecting these surveys to tell them? You only need to walk around the office or factory and listen into some tea room discussions to find out that employees are not engaged because they are worried about their jobs new (Added: 17-Nov-2009 Hits: 53 )

Leadership During A Crisis

  • Making a drama out of a crisis
By na - anagers are supposed to be able to glide effortlessly through the crises each day throws their way. In reality most end up dropping something else equally important, going all uncommunicative, working late or tearing about in a stress-induced panic. new (Added: 17-Nov-2009 Hits: 52 )

Leadership and Communication

  • Five ways leaders can communicate change
By Marcia Xenitelis - I am often asked about the role of the CEO or leader of any organization in employee communication. My opinion is that no matter what the issue is, even if it is just business as usual, having a good communicator as a CEO is critical to impact the culture of an organization in a positive way. new (Added: 17-Nov-2009 Hits: 30 )
